First and foremost, we are a private, home based show kennel.  The word "kennel" in no way implies a commercial operation and should not be construed as such.  There is no public visitation and our dogs are our pets and family members above all else.

Our goal is to breed our dogs in such a fashion as to improve their respective breeds as a whole.  We strive for excellence.  Our Miniature Schnauzers and Scottish Terriers are of the highest quality with impeccable pedigrees.  We enjoy the sport of showing dogs, as do our dogs.  After all, if a dog doesn't enjoy being shown, then it is not a show dog.  We are very competitive in the show ring, demanding top performance from our dogs.  They love it and aim to please.  Since we breed  more dogs than we can keep ourselves, we do offer those we do not keep for sale as both show dogs and companions.

Sale of Show or Companion (Pet) Dogs

Occasionally, we offer puppies or young adults for sale to companion (pet) or show buyers.  A Memorandum of Agreement (Sales Contract) is signed prior to all sales.  Any puppy purchased as a companion is sold on a strict spay/neuter agreement.  We do not over-breed our dogs and only have a few litters  per year.  If you are interested in obtaining a quality puppy, please be prepared to wait; and quality, well bred puppies  are not inexpensive.  It is commonplace with most reputable breeders to maintain a waiting list for puppies, and the demand is high.

Since we breed animals we consider our family members, we are subjective in our decisions to sell, or not to sell, a dog to a perspective buyer.  We do not offer puppies on a first-come-first-serve basis.  Our decision is based on the best fit with the dog and the family.

We do not sell to wholesalers, resellers or any organization or individual dealing with the commercial sale of puppies.

Shipping out of State:  We will ship dogs on commercial airline carriers given the carrier is not instituting an embargo or the temperate is not above 85oF/29oC.  Shipping charges are usually between $150 - $250, depending on the airline, and do not including the cost of a shipping crate.

Companion (Pet) vs. Show Dog

At Jovial Kennels, we’ve simplified our definition of a show dog vs. a companion (pet).  A show dog is a breeding animal sold under contract to be shown and bred as determined by Jovial Kennels.  A companion is not a breeding animal, cannot be shown and must be surgically neutered.  A dog can be show-quality and still sold into a companion home under a standard companion agreement.

A show-quality dog is a special accomplishment; there’s no doubt about that.  Breeding a quality show dog takes the experience from years of work and patience.  Our goal is to produce puppies with qualities better than their parents, while taking into consideration the seemingly nebulous genetic compatibility factors of the breeds.  With this philosophy in mind, we tend to breed more show quality dogs than we can keep and show ourselves.  Generally speaking, we sell more show-quality dogs into companion homes than we do show homes.  It is our personal preference for our dogs to be pampered pets.

If you are considering purchasing a show dog, you should be aware of the incredible commitment it is and the hard work involved.

Why Spay/Neuter?

Spay/neuter agreements are common practices with reputable breeders in the United States.  There are several schools of thought on this point.  At Jovial Kennels, our bottom line is simple:  neutered pets live longer and healthier lives.  It is an undisputable, proven medical fact.  Other valid points of concern are canine overpopulation and genetic concerns due to improper breeding practices.  Reputable breeders spend years acquiring knowledge to implement proper breeding practices.  They are the best resource for quality puppies, and this standard policy encourages selective, careful breeding.

The Sales Contract

All dogs sold, placed or given away from Jovial Kennels are covered by the stipulations of a Sales Contract.  Our companion (pet) contract is standard for all our companion animal buyers.  Each show contract is specific, addressing the individual issues associated with showing and breeding.

The companion (pet) dog Sales Contract addresses, but not limited to, the following areas:  Purchase price, AKC information and limited registration, five generation pedigree, health at the time of sale, medical history, genetic disorders up to the age of 18 months, spay/neuter requirements, and disposition of the dog should it become necessary for the buyer no longer to own it. We encourage owners of new puppies to have them examined by the licensed veterinarian of their choice.

Stud Service

We do offer Champion Stud service to approved bitches.  We breed our dogs to bitches in a fashion that improves the breed as a whole.  All bitches bred to our studs must test negative for Burcellosis and be free from any genetic abnormalities.  A Stud Contract (Guarantee of Mating)  covers the conditions of the breeding, including if and when return services are applicable.  Chilled semen available.
